Hochstein benefits from student’s Eagle Scout project

posted on

As soon as Benjamin Timm could talk, he started singing, thanks to his great grandmother who was a professional singer. He first started at Hochstein 13 years ago in Music FUNdamentals, then transitioned into Little Singers with Alice Pratt. Ben is now a junior at Rush-Henrietta Senior High School and a member of Hochstein Youth Singers and Hochstein Singers with Maryellen Giese.

Ben is also a member of Boy Scout Troop #750 in Henrietta. When he was thinking about what he could do as his Eagle Scout project, he decided that it would be a way to give back to Hochstein, in part as a tribute to Pratt, who passed away earlier this year. Ben said of Hochstein, “It’s a family, everyone here is nice, and they have helped me through difficult times in my life.”

On Monday, October 9, Ben led other boys in his troop (with parental assistance) in making a few improvements to our building. They repainted the area outside Room 11 at the second floor elevator, polished all the railings in the Performance Hall balcony, painted the black railings outside at all the entrances, added yellow safety paint to the steps, trimmed bushes, and weeded and mulched the garden beds.

Over the entire course of his project, he had a total of 39 scout and adult volunteers. Ben coordinated the whole project and worked on getting materials and supplies from area businesses so there would be no cost to Hochstein. Thanks to his sponsors: CID Painting; Wegmans; Home Depot; Sherwin Williams; Weider’s Ace Hardware, Honeoye Falls; Premier Parking; and several cash donations.

And especially thanks to Ben and all of the scouts and parents for your efforts!
