Summer Dance Camp introduced students to many ways of moving

posted on

At the new “Around the World of Dance” summer camp earlier this month  led by Dance Department Chair Wynton Rice  students ages 7-18 learned many different ways of moving including contemporary, modern, hip hop, and Afrobeats.

Each day, the dancers worked with Wynton and with special guest instructors, including Ryan Barski, Adriene Hodge, Janae Jones, Maya Parks, Melinda Phillips, and artists from PUSH Physical Theatre. This camp was a true immersion into the world of dance – offering a comprehensive and educational experience into some of the newest and most traditional dance forms.

One day, Darren Stevenson, Artistic Co-Director of PUSH Physical Theatre, led a workshop on different ways to move your body – from pushing or pulling on an invisible object to small movements of the hands or feet to partnering with another person. The students had fun finding ways to balance with their partner, or going around, beside, or through the other person with the fewest number of motions.

There are many opportunities to continue exploring new ways of moving when the fall semester starts on September 6. Hochstein’s dance program for children ages 3-18 includes ballet, modern, jazz dance, hip hop, African dance, and tap. For more information, visit: https://hochstein.org/Dance.
