For more than 45 years, Hochstein’s Expressive Arts Program has served the Rochester community by offering music, art, and dance therapy; adaptive lessons; and wellness sessions – both at Hochstein and through group programs at 71 sites each week. Hochstein’s group therapy program serves more than 1,000 people in our community.
One of the sites is the Hickok Center for Brain Injury, which serves individuals with traumatic brain injuries and neurological disorders. Hochstein provides on-site group music classes at Hickok that enable people to come together and express himself or herself as a whole person.
Pablo, one of the participants, says, “It inspires me, it really does. It gives me more confidence. Just feeling like, hey, I’m worth something!”
The Hickok Center’s Structured Day Program Manager Taylor Chilluffo says, “We have a lot of individuals where they may not be able to complete a full sentence, but a certain song comes on and they are able to fluently sing a full song.”
