“Music – it moves people, it shapes people, it’s expressing yourself,” says David, a student at Nativity Preparatory Academy. “It’s something that needs to be taught everywhere.”
David is one of more than 300 students at Nativity Prep and Rochester City School 19 – through their Arts4All program – who participates in group music, dance, and wellness classes taught by Hochstein instructors. (See videos below.)
As part of Hochstein’s community engagement program, instructors go out into these schools to lead classes in African Dance & Drumming, Creative Music-Making, Voice, Violin, Movement, Mindfulness, Ballet, and Contemporary Dance.
“Students really thrive when they have activities and events that truly get to the heart and the center of who they are,” says Moniek Silas-Lee, Principal of Dr. Charles Lunsford School #19. “I’m seeing shy students excited about being on stage. I watch them flourish in the classroom with their academics as a direct result of their arts experiences.”
