On March 4, two Hochstein alums marched forth on a new adventure. Friends since they were in the Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra together, Jake Kinney (trumpet) and Sophie Wiltse (violin) are thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail!
Hiking buddies ever since they went on HYSO Tour together to the Alps, they left their jobs in their respective cities (Jake-Boston, Sophie-Tampa) and traveled to Atlanta to start the hike. They will be traveling from Georgia to Maine over the next 6 months.
Jake will be keeping a blog, Out There on the Trail, and you can follow along to find out things like how he got his trail name of “Shaggy” and learn about “trail magic.” Jake encourages anyone interested to follow along on their adventures.
HYSO alumni and their families are encouraged to meet up with Jake and Sophie anywhere between Springer Mountain, Georgia, and Mount Katahdin in Northern Maine. Any that are comfortable hiking 10-15 miles a day could even walk with them for one or more days.
