On Tuesday, September 27, The Hochstein School celebrated the reopening of the historic Performance Hall after a summer of repairs and renovations with “Hochstein Presents,” a special event for community partners, supporters, media, and guests.
Hochstein student Noah Busch, a violin student of Dr. Pia Liptak, opened the event with a performance of the Sarabande from Bach’s Partita No. 2 in D minor.
Eric Logan, Vice Chair of the Hochstein Board of Directors, welcomed the audience on this momentous occasion – the most extensive renovations since the space first opened as a concert hall in 1999 – and then introduced Hochstein President & Executive Director Hilary Respass.
Other speakers included:
- New York State Senator Jeremy Cooney, who is also an alumnus of The Hochstein School;
- Mona Seghatoleslami of WXXI Classical, who hosts the Live from Hochstein concert series;
- Dr. Shirley Green, Commissioner, Department of Recreation & Human Services, City of Rochester; and
- Corinda Crossdale, Deputy County Executive for Health & Human Services, Monroe County.
Also honored was Peggy Quackenbush, Hochstein’s former President & Executive Director, as the driving force behind the renovation project.
Rochester soprano and actor Kearstin Piper Brown – also a former Hochstein board member! – capped off the event with a performance of the “Alleluia” from Mozart’s Exsultate, Jubilate, accompanied by Dr. Gary Palmer on piano.
