Hochstein is a family place for three generations of students

Hochstein is a family place for three generations of students

Three generations of the Blake family have taken music classes at Hochstein. Adele Blake started bringing her young son, Theodore, to Hochstein this fall for Music FUNdamentals classes with “Miss Barb” Bonisteel.

Adele and her brother both took music classes at Hochstein as children, and their parents, Jim and Lynette Blake, also take classes at Hochstein. Lynette has studied cello with Kathy Kemp and Jim studies piano with Doleen Hood, and they also have volunteered at Hochstein.

“When I moved back here with my family,” says Adele, “one of the first things we looked at was getting my son enrolled in classes because he loves music, too … and to join in the family atmosphere here. … To be able to share that with him has been magical.”

Lynette recalls the experience of when their family first started coming to Hochstein. “It was just this wonderful place. Everybody was friendly. Adele made several lifelong friends here, from sitting in the waiting room together; families that we still see on a regular basis. … It’s inclusive in a very special way.”

The benefits of arts education include helping children and youth acquire skills that will serve them for a lifetime. Hochstein’s programs are open to all, regardless of age, ability level, or socioeconomic status.
