Online lessons led to successful solo fest performance

Meet Sara Ward, currently a sophomore at Churchville-Chili High School, who has been playing saxophone for 6 years, since fourth grade. She has also been playing guitar as a hobby for 3 years now.

Sara began taking private saxophone lessons online with Hochstein instructor Nancy Boone-Bahr during the onset of the pandemic in March 2020. Sara has also been participating in the Honor’s Certificate Program at Hochstein, all online until her most recent in-person jury in May.

Her first in-person lesson was just two weeks before her solo fest recording in April 2021. Sara had prepared a level 6 solo and this was her first time playing with piano accompaniment (ably provided by Willie LaFavor)!

Sara has since received a 99 score on her solo fest performance. Great job, Sara – anything is possible!
