Full-Time Faculty Position:
Suzuki & Traditional Cello Instructor


The Hochstein School seeks a full-time instructor of Suzuki and traditional cello to provide individual lessons and Suzuki group classes to students ages 3 – adult. Additional opportunities may be available for chamber music coaching.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor of Music degree (required), Master of Music degree (preferred)
  • Suzuki cello teacher training through Book 3 (or beyond); commitment to take additional training (with assistance) in the future
  • Minimum 3 years teaching experience, including experience with beginners as well as with students of various ages and levels of advancement
  • Commitment to teaching Suzuki group classes as well as individual lessons (required)
  • Experience coaching chamber music to a variety of ages/levels
  • Previous teaching experience in a music school setting desirable
  • Skills and enthusiasm for working with children/youth and their parents, as well as with adults, to develop strong musicianship
  • Interest in the Hochstein mission
  • Ability to contribute to the excellence of our program in conjunction with the Hochstein faculty and staff

Schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoon/evening hours for individual lessons and chamber coaching; Saturdays for group classes, followed by individual lessons and chamber coaching. Additional days/times may be added based on enrollment. The full schedule will start in September 2024.

Compensation: hourly, depending on qualifications/experience. This is a benefits-eligible position. The School will guarantee a minimum of 20 hours per week for the 36-week school-year term and the 6-week summer session. There is opportunity for growth beyond the 20-hour schedule, but hours may include promotional activities and other duties if initial teaching schedule in September is not at the 20-hour minimum.
