Institutional Giving Manager (full-time)

 

The Hochstein School is a vibrant organization in Rochester, NY, offering instruction in music, dance, and therapeutic arts. Hochstein annually serves more than 3,500 students from a 12-county region surrounding Rochester. The School is active throughout the community and provides tuition assistance to more than 50% of its students. The acclaimed Hochstein Performance Hall, located within the school's historic downtown building, hosts frequent concerts and events.

The Institutional Giving Manager is responsible for overseeing Hochstein's institutional (government, foundation, and corporate) giving, including writing and submitting grant applications, identifying new funding sources, and strengthening relationships with existing institutional supporters. The position will also secure corporate sponsors for the annual fundraising gala, organize grant-related information in the development database, and assist in preparing program budgets. The appropriate candidate will display advanced writing skills as well as the ability to prioritize competing deadlines and work both independently and within a small team. They will communicate effectively and clearly with supporters, staff members, and community stakeholders, and display a strong belief in Hochstein's mission and vision. The Institutional Giving Manager will be expected to work in person at The Hochstein School in Rochester, NY for at least 30% of working hours, but may otherwise work remotely. In addition, on-site and off-site meetings for institutional donor stewardship and cultivation may be required, as well as on- and off-site program observation. Specific scheduling details are to be determined.

Responsibilities

Grant Writing and Management:

  • Serve as the primary writer on all grant proposals, requests, and reports
  • Collaborate with staff and faculty to gather information and data while developing compelling messaging to apply to proposals
  • Manage the grant submission process, including collecting and synthesizing necessary program data
  • Complete application and reporting requirements, working with other staff members as needed
  • Develop and maintain an annual schedule to track deadlines for applications, reports, and proposals
     

Institutional Giving Stewardship and Solicitation:

  • Research and identify institutional prospects and opportunities
  • Support the Director of Development in developing strategies for increasing institutional giving
  • Manage a portfolio of institutional supporters and family foundations, maintaining correspondence
  • Secure corporate sponsors for Hochstein's annual fundraising gala
  • Assist in the creation of engaging supporting materials (videos, photos, brochures, etc.)
     

Data Management and Organization:

  • Track information about grant applications, reporting requirements, and prospective supporters
  • Work with the Development Coordinator to ensure data accuracy and reporting capabilities
  • Organize grant-related information and files, including grant agreements and applications
  • Provide regular reports and analysis of institutional giving data and strategies to staff and board

Ideal Qualifications

  • Passion for Hochstein's mission and vision
  • Ability to observe and understand programming and write accurately and persuasively about it
  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in English, journalism, communications, or other related field)
  • Experience in grant writing and/or fundraising
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace, particularly Word, Excel, and Sheets
  • Advanced communication skills, especially written
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities
  • Skills in problem solving, event planning, relationship building, and data organization
     

Salary Range: $48,000 - $60,000

Work Schedule: Generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 am-4:00 pm/9:00 am-5:00 pm, with occasional evening and weekend work for special events/programs.
