Syd is a board certified music therapist with over a decade of experience working in a variety of settings, such as inpatient psychiatry, eldercare, hospice & palliative care, physical rehabilitation, and community-based music therapy. Syd’s preferred work environment is teaching adaptive music lessons, which allows them to use their skills as a music therapist while witnessing musical and personal growth in their students.
Syd trained as a music therapist at Fredonia State University and completed their clinical internship at Hudson Valley Hospice in Poughkeepsie, NY. As an avid French horn player, Syd plays in local groups as often as possible as a substitute, as well as in the Rochester Medical Orchestra. Syd also spends their free time working with Girls Rock Rochester, which is a non-profit dedicated to the empowerment and musical education of girls and LGBTQ+ youth.
Syd believes music is for everyone and cherishes the opportunity to work here at Hochstein where they are surrounded by the gift of music and music education every day.
