Matt Osika serves as the Assistant Director of the Hochstein Philharmonia Orchestra and an Instructor of the Hochstein Elementary Wind Band Camp.
Currently teaching instrumental music at Thomas High School and Willink Middle School in Webster, NY, Osika performs regularly as principal trumpet with the Penfield Symphony and Cordancia Chamber Orchestras. He has conducted the Cordancia Chamber Orchestra, Ad Hoc Chamber Ensemble, The ECMS Music Educators’ Wind Ensemble, and various honor groups throughout New York State. Osika’s compositions and arrangements are in high demand and are performed regularly by local ensembles.
In the Spring of 2014, Osika founded the Young Composers Collaboration Project with the Hochstein Youth Orchestra Program, where students create, refine, and premiere large orchestral works.
Osika attended the Eastman School of Music as a recipient of the prestigious Lois S. Rogers scholarship where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Music/Music Education (2008) and a Master’s degree in Music Education (2010). During that time, he performed alongside the Canadian Brass, served as tour manager for the Eastman Wind Ensemble, and as Assistant Conductor of the Eastman Wind Orchestra. Trumpet instructors include James Thompson and Douglas Prosser; conducting instructors include Mark Davis Scatterday and Brad Lubman.
