Isabella Lau

Isabella Lau is a trombonist, educator, and arts administrator from Rochester, NY. As a trombonist, she has performed with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Rochester Oratorio Society, Ann Arbor Symphony, Michigan Philharmonic, Adrian Symphony Orchestra, and Hohenfels Trombone Quartet.

As an educator, Isabella currently serves as Adjunct Professor of Trombone at Roberts Wesleyan University and Trombone Instructor at the Hochstein School in Rochester, NY. Isabella enjoys teaching applied lessons and coaching groups in the Hochstein Chamber Music Connection program, including the Hochstein Trombone Choir.

Previously, Isabella was a counselor for the Eastman Community Music School’s Adventure Music Camp and mentor for the Future in Music Program, which focuses on promoting access to high-quality education to brass players who are marginalized on the basis of gender or may not have such access.
In addition to performing and teaching, Isabella is an academic administrator at the Eastman Community Music School, coordinating the school’s summer programs and faculty administrative needs.

Isabella is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music (Bachelor of Music, Applied Trombone) and Michigan State University (Master of Music, Trombone Performance) where she studied with Larry Zalind and Ava Ordman, respectively. Other impactful teachers have included Mark Kellogg, Evan Dobbins, Erik Jacobs, and BJ Comer. While at Eastman, she also received a Certificate in Arts Leadership from the school’s Institute for Music Leadership. During Isabella’s senior year at Eastman, she served as operations assistant for the Eastman Centennial Planning Committee, supporting the school’s celebration of 100 years serving the arts and Rochester community.
