Carl Galland

As an educator, Dr. Carl Galland teaches clarinetists of all ages and skill sets including 4th grade through high school, college, and adult students. As an active pedagogue, Dr. Galland is a member of the New York State School Music Association and International Clarinet Association. He has given educational performance presentations at local Rochester schools as well as nationally, especially giving presentations introducing the woodwind instruments as well as academic presentations on executing Romantic period performance practice through creative and individualistic interpretation.

Dr. Galland has also distinguished himself as an international and national clarinetist, making his international solo debut in Kadriorg Palace of Tallin, Estonia, collaborating with the St. Petersburg String Quartet in 2017, and making his New York debut in Weill Hall of Carnegie Hall in 2018. He has placed and been a finalist in several music competitions, including first prize in the 198th Army Reserve Solo Competition in Rochester, NY, receiving “Best Overall Performance” from Perishing’s Own Army Band members.

​Dr. Galland attended the University of Texas at Austin as an undergraduate before receiving Doctoral and Master of Music degrees in Clarinet Performance and Literature at the Eastman School of Music, where he was the Teaching Assistant of Kenneth Grant and Jon Manasse. His principle clarinet teachers include Kenneth Grant, Jon Manasse, Nathan Williams, and Richard MacDowell.
