Originally from Darien, Connecticut, violinist Anna Leunis is currently a first violinist with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Born into an artistic household, Anna began taking violin lessons at the age of four and started playing in a string quartet at age ten under the tutelage of Asya Meshberg at the Chamber Music Institute for Young Musicians. Her love for chamber music quickly flourished, and after many summers performing at the institute, she was awarded the Emerging Young Artist Scholarship by the Stamford Center for the Arts. She returned in 2015 to teach on the violin faculty at the Chamber Music Institute and later became assistant director.
As a chamber musician, Anna has performed at the Lake George Music Festival, Caroga Lake Music Festival, Yellow Barn Young Artists Program, Manchester Music Festival, and Accademia Isola Classica, among others. Anna participated in the intensive Honors String Quartet Seminar with the Ying Quartet, performing with her quartet in Hatch Hall and participating in a residency at the Avaloch Farm Music Institute. She was awarded the Celentano Award in Chamber Music at the Eastman School of Music. Anna is currently a member of the music faculty at the Hochstein School and previously held teaching positions at the Neighborhood Music School and INTEMPO.
She previously held positions in the first violin section of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra and as Principal Second Violin of the Sarasota Opera Orchestra. She has spent her summers performing with the Gstaad Festival Orchestra, Britt Festival Orchestra, Artosphere Festival Orchestra, and Pacific Music Festival.
Anna holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music, a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Rochester, and a Master of Music degree from the Yale School of Music, where she studied with Oleh Krysa and Syoko Aki.
