He has played in master classes for cellists including Zuill Bailey, Eric Bartlett, and Fred Sherry, and his principal teachers include Peter Wiley, Marcy Rosen, Luis Garcia-Renart, and Jonathan Golove.
Appearing in numerous musical theatre productions throughout his career, he played in NBC’s live production of Jesus Christ Superstar with John Legend and Sarah Barielles, recording an album that was also nominated for a Grammy. He can also be heard on the Grammy-winning Deutsche Grammophon soundtrack for Netflix’s 2023 motion picture Maestro (and seen in the film!), directed by Bradley Cooper, about legendary conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein.
An experienced and committed orchestra musician, he was previously an inaugural member of The Orchestra Now, an orchestra in residence at Bard College, performing at venues including Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and the Metropolitan Museum, among others. He has also appeared in several international music festivals, including the Grafenegg Academy Festival and the Schlern International Music Festival, and has performed annually at the Bard Music Festival.
An ardent supporter of contemporary music, he has appeared with such groups as the Argento Chamber Players and New York Composer’s Circle, and was the co-founder and director of Innovox Contemporary Ensemble, a new ensemble championing the work of living composers. He also appeared frequently as a soloist for the New York City Electro-Acoustic Music Festival, performing contemporary works for solo cello and live/fixed electronics, and has also played at the annual June in Buffalo festival at the University at Buffalo.
Andrew plays on a 1920 Marc Laberte cello made in Mirecourt, France.
