The Chamber Music Connection brings musicians together in small ensembles to inspire, explore, grow, and create — open to youth and adults, Hochstein students and community members alike.
The Chamber Music Connection (CMC) offers each musician the unique opportunity to develop their own musical voice while bringing their individual talents together in a supportive and encouraging environment. Ensembles are formed based on age, playing ability, student and coach availability, and instrumentation. The program is open to all Hochstein participants as well as community musicians, regardless of program affiliation. Weekly coaching sessions with a Hochstein faculty member are complemented by masterclasses and performance opportunities at Hochstein and throughout the Rochester community. The program is supported in part by the Louise Alfreda Hill Memorial Fund.
Youth chamber ensembles are open to students in grades 1–12 at NYSSMA Level 3 or equivalent. Options include chamber ensembles of three or more (trios, quartets, quintets), instrument-specific choirs for woodwinds and brass (grades 5–12), and Youth Honors Scholarship Ensembles for advanced students in grades 9–12 at NYSSMA Level 6 or equivalent. All applicants submit a short video with their online application to ensure the best possible group placement.
Adult programs are open to musicians ages 18 and up at intermediate to advanced level. Options include chamber ensembles of three or more, duos, and instrument-specific choirs. Ensembles meet for weekly coaching sessions scheduled at a mutually agreed time. Full session and short-term offerings are available. Adults apply online and may request placement with a specific partner or apply to be paired with another player of similar level.
