Event details

“American Soundscapes” is an exploration of the widely varied musical languages employed by American composers through repertoire written for cello, piano, and trumpet.

The program includes pieces in a late Romantic style by Amy Beach; those which explore timbre and tonality such as the Sonata for Trumpet and Cello by Yves Chardon; music for the unusual trio of trumpet, cello, and piano by both Eric Ewasen and Carson Cooman; Joseph Turrin's energetic "Intrada" for trumpet and piano; and a selection from Ned Rorem's Piano Sonata No. 1.

Cora Swensen Lee and Apollo Lee are both former Hochstein faculty members and Eastman alums with extensive chamber and orchestral experience, now based in central Illinois. A member of Hochstein’s piano faculty, Yoshiko Arahata enjoys a multifaceted career as an internationally active pianist, educator, improvisor, and composer.

The musical soundscapes the program traverses are as vast and varied as the American landscape, and we hope the audience will enjoy this journey.
