About
Community happens here.
It’s in the connections between teachers and students, between families, between players and singers and dancers coming together to learn, share, and celebrate the wonder of music and dance. Whatever your passion, background, age, ability, or means, you are welcome here.
To provide people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities with access to excellent music and dance education in a community that nurtures and encourages personal achievement.
The Hochstein School's Mission
Our History
A School Built in David's Memory
Founded in 1920 in memory of violinist David Hochstein, the school has spent more than a century turning a private dream of accessible music education into a thriving community cornerstone in downtown Rochester.
From its early days teaching strings to schoolchildren, Hochstein has grown into a full community school of the arts — offering individual instruction, ensembles, dance, expressive arts therapies, and outreach programs across the Rochester region.
