Music Instructor, Early Childhood Classes
The Hochstein School seeks an instructor for early childhood music classes (ages 3 and 4) for the 2019-20 school year.
In partnership with the YMCA of Greater Rochester, Hochstein offers a program called “Making Music, Making Strides” for children ages 3 and 4 from the Maplewood, Lewis Street, and Carlson YMCA Child Care Centers. The Y provides transportation to and from Hochstein; Y staff members also provide support in the classroom. Each class meets weekly for 45 minutes in one of Hochstein’s well-equipped children’s music classrooms. Class sizes run from 12-18.
Qualifications sought: undergraduate degree in music education; successful experience with, or strong desire to learn, early childhood music instruction; successful experience with or desire to work with diverse population. The candidate must enjoy working with young children. Personal transportation necessary (on occasion, it may be necessary to travel to the various YMCA Child Care Center locations in Rochester to give classes on site, though this will be the rare exception).
Schedule: 6-8 classes are taught weekdays as follows: Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings (and early afternoons if needed). A spring presentation for parents/families in Hochstein’s Performance Hall is planned, in early evening hours.
Instruction will be supervised by Hochstein’s Music FUNdamentals Department Chair, Alice Pratt.
Compensation: hourly, based on qualifications and experience; one hour preparation time per day as well as instruction time.
