Hochstein Presents

Hochstein School is participating as a community partner in Writers and Books ”If All of Rochester Read the Same Book…” program this year. This year’s book selection is The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey. The novel follows a childless couple homesteading in Alaska in 1920 that one day playfully creates a child out of snow. When a mysterious and secretive little girl appears out of the woods the next day, their lives are changed forever. There are two events:

Creative Movement Workshop with Live Music Accompaniment in our dance studio

3-4pm, Open to ages 3 and up: Free

Join our dance department's students and faculty as they lead families through an improvisational hour of movement for dancers and non-dancers alike. Our music students performing a variety of pieces inspired by winter will accompany them.

This is immediately followed by a dance performance people are welcome to stay for.

"Flights of Winter Fancy"

4:15-5pm, Free and open to the public

Hochstein Performance Hall, 50 N. Plymouth Avenue

Hochstein's dance faculty, students and friends will be performing a variety of dances fitting to the season. Our headline performer is Mariah Maloney, a native of Homer, Alaska who grew up listening to her mother playing chamber music in their homesteader log cabin—a beginning which influences her dance making process today.
