Saturdays, 10:00–11:00 am

This first step in Hochstein's comprehensive Orchestral Program is designed for violin, viola, cello, and bass students who can demonstrate beginning sight-reading proficiency. Come and explore team music-making as we study orchestral performance and bowing skills. Students will also work on learning to play as a section and following the conductor. Rehearsals take place at the nearby Downtown United Presbyterian Church.

FEE: $8 registration fee; $306* tuition, payable in quarterly installments of $76.50 each. For students enrolled in individual instruction at Hochstein, tuition is $252 payable in quarterly installments of $63.

Suggested Grades 4–9, NYSSMA Level 4–5
SaturString students with prior ensemble experience will have the opportunity to hone orchestral reading and orchestral skills while rehearsing and performing a wide variety of repertoire ranging from classical to contemporary. Rehearsals take place at the nearby Downtown United Presbyterian Church.

FEE: $8 registration fee; $324* yearly tuition, payable in quarterly installments of $81 each. For students enrolled in individual lessons at Hochstein, yearly tuition is $279 payable in quarterly installments of $69.75.

Choral Program

A choral experience with performance opportunities, leads toward a lifelong enjoyment of singing. Choir members learn vocal, ensemble, and performance skills and participate in ear–training and rhythm activities. Choirs have performed on numerous occasions at Hochstein and at community events.

Hochstein Little Singers

Saturdays, 9:00-10:00 am
This beginning pre–choral experience is the perfect activity for the budding little vocalist in the family! Hochstein Little Singers will use the voice as a tool for developing basic musicianship and introducing musical concepts, as well as to introduce the joy of singing in an age–appropriate, healthy way.

FEE: $8 registration fee; $324* yearly tuition payable in quarterly installments of $81. For students enrolled in individual lessons at Hochstein, tuition is $216 payable in quarterly installments of $54.

Youth SingersLittle People Singers
Maryellen Giese, Director
grades 3–12
Saturdays, 9:30–11:00 am
This energetic ensemble sings in unison, two and three parts. Students have fun learning vocal and rehearsal techniques by singing traditional choral repertoire, folk songs, multi-cultural literature and spirited novelty pieces. Youth Singers learn correct vocal production including proper vowel placement and breathing, enunciation of consonants and correct posture, as well as listening and ensemble skills. Singers will also improve their music reading skills using Solfège and Kodaly Hand signals as part of the curriculum. Students must be prepared to attend regularly scheduled rehearsals and performances at Hochstein and throughout the community.

FEE: $8 registration fee; $360* yearly tuition, payable in quarterly installments of $90. For students enrolled in individual lessons at Hochstein, yearly tuition is $270 payable in quarterly installments of $67.50.

*TUITION ASSISTANCE Students requiring tuition assistance in order to enroll in any program at Hochstein may do so through the Dean’s Office. For children enrolled in individual lessons, reduced fees may apply if household income is less than $40,000. For children enrolling in classes only and for adults enrolling in individual lessons, reduced fees may apply if household income is less than $25,000. Verification of household income and completion of a tuition assistance application is due prior to registration.
