Allen Hopkins, Instructor
5 Tuesdays, July 10-August 7, 2018
7:00-8:00 pm
Ages 10-adult, beginners
Invented here in the USA, the zither-family autoharp is popular for its full sound, “push-button” chords, and versatility. It’s found everywhere from elementary-school music class (you remember that favorite teacher from childhood) to the Grand Ole Opry, playing a variety of styles. This course will feature basic strumming, melody playing, tuning, and vocal accompaniment, as demonstrated in simple, familiar songs and tunes. The class will also include demonstrations of historic autoharps going back more than a century.
NOTE: Students will need to have their own instruments and are encouraged to have an electronic tuner, to ensure tuned instruments at the beginning of class. If you have questions about an appropriate instrument, feel free to e-mail the instructor directly at allen.hopkins@hochstein.org.
Fee: $10 registration fee; $80* tuition; $60 if enrolled in individual lessons at Hochstein. (Fees are as of Summer 2018.)
