HYSO Concerto Competition Winners for 2014-2015

Hochstein School of Music & Dance is proud to announce the winners of the 2014-2015 Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition held November 5, 2014. The winners are Oliver Lindblom, trombone, a home-schooled sophomore, and Ryan Bellinger, cello, a sophomore at Victor High School.

Oliver (right) will play the Concerto for Trombone, movement 1 by Gordon Jacob at the winter concert February 8, 2015. Ryan will perform the Cello Concerto in D minor, movement 1 by Édouard Lalo at the Annual Mother’s Day Concert in May of 2015.

Casey Springstead, in his third year as director of the Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra said, “…this event has become one of the most enjoyable events of the season for me, and it is such a thrill to see so many talented young people summon the courage it takes to compete at such a high level.“ 

The Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra (HYSO) is a full orchestra (strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion) for advanced musicians. The HYSO promotes musical experience through the study and performance of standard orchestral repertoire, contemporary works, small ensembles and student concerto performances. Season repertoire includes Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary music. The HYSO toured Italy in Spring 2009 and Ireland in Spring 2011, and France in the Spring of 2014.
