Hochstein School of Music & Dance presents HOC Loves ROC—a 10-day festival that brings music and dance to the community

Student and faculty performances include a world premiere plus many free concerts

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — If there are two things the Rochester community loves, it’s the arts and festivals. Hochstein School of Music & Dance has blended these favorites for a 10-day, mid-winter festival titled HOC Loves ROC, spanning Friday, Jan. 30 through Sunday, Feb. 8. This first-time community-wide event involves hundreds of students and faculty members from Hochstein, with performances at the school as well as throughout the county at area centers, churches, and businesses.

Most of these musical and dance performances will be free to the public. Events include a drum circle at The Strong, a guitar ensemble at Hart’s Local Grocers, West African dance at Roberts Wesleyan College, and a world premiere performance at Hochstein.

“We wish to show how much we at Hochstein appreciate and love Rochester by bringing the gift of music and dance to area residents, inviting them to our classrooms and Performance Hall and also to venues in their hometowns,” said Dr. Margaret (Peggy) Quackenbush, president & executive director of Hochstein.

The HOC Loves ROC festival will feature performances by adult and young student musicians and dancers as well as Hochstein’s renowned faculty. Genres of performances range from classical to jazz to rock.

A featured highlight will be the world premiere of “Stone Soup: A Tale Retold,” a performance on Feb. 7 that will blend the storytelling aspects of dance, music and magic to relay the famous French tale to audience members both young and old. It was created by Sarah Andreacchi, Hochstein dance department co-chair, and is sponsored by kidsoutandabout.com.
