Margaret (Peggy) Quackenbush has been President and Executive Director of the Hochstein School of Music & Dance since 1992 and a member of the school’s faculty, teaching clarinet and chamber music, since 1979. She retired in June 2022.

An active soloist, chamber, and orchestral clarinetist, Quackenbush is a founding member of Antara Winds. She holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Eastman School of Music, along with degrees from the University of Oregon’s School of Music and the University of Minnesota, Morris. Quackenbush has also performed frequently with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Society for Chamber Music in Rochester, Rochester Oratorio Society, and other ensembles.  

Her teaching career has included positions at Roberts Wesleyan College and Lane Community College (Eugene, Oregon), as well as at the Hochstein School, where she has taught clarinet and chamber music.  

She is a past board member of the National Guild for Community Arts Education and the National Association of Schools of Music, and she currently serves on the Guild’s Members Council and as Chair of the Accrediting Commission for Community and Precollegiate Arts Schools. In 2001, she received the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra’s Musician’s Award for Outstanding Music Educators, and in 2002, she was named Mu Phi Epsilon Musician of the Year. In 2011, she was named National Arts Associate by Sigma Alpha Iota; in 2012, she received the Milestone Certificate of Appreciation from the National Guild for Community Arts Education. In March 2013, she was the recipient of the Richard H. Snook Memorial Award from the Monroe County Music Educators Association, and in June 2013 was named Distinguished Alumna by the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance.
