Director, Arts in Action Summer Program

Each summer, Hochstein offers a series of one-week day programs for children ages 4-10.  Music, movement, visual arts, and other creative arts activities are designed to focus on a particular theme, with the emphasis on fun-filled learning, exploration, and creativity.

The Director of the Arts in Action Program provides professional leadership in planning age-appropriate program content, hiring specialist teachers and teacher aides, and coordinating all aspects of the program. He/she will work with other staff and faculty at Hochstein. The position carries an appropriate stipend.

 

The 2018 Arts in Action sessions being July 9, 2018 and conclude July 27, 2018.

 

Duties of the position include:

  • Planning age-appropriate program themes for each week of the summer session, including a student presentation at the end of each week
  • Recruiting and hiring specialist teachers and counselors, per budget established with President
  • Planning and implementation of staff orientation
  • Purchasing necessary supplies for the program, per budget established with President
  • Hiring guest artists as needed, per budgeted established with President
  • Provide information to parents daily, via communications folders
  • Provide AIA staff contract and payroll information to appropriate Hochstein departments
  • Oversee the daily operations of the program, including camper arrival/departure, assisting/ observing/ evaluating AIA staff, handling special needs of campers and/or communication with parents as needed
  • Provide summary report and program evaluation to President and other Hochstein staff at conclusion of summer session, for the purpose of future program improvement

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in music education (Master’s preferred), and at least three years’ experience teaching preschool, elementary, and middle school aged children
  • Previous experience with multi-disciplinary arts education programs desirable
  • Administrative and supervisory experience
  • Excellent communications skills, verbal and written
